Sonoma County Events

Dia De Los Muertos - Peter PerezHarvest time is packed with events. Check out the schedule on the right for this month's special happenings. The poster by Peter Perez for Petaluma's Dia De Los Muertos is one of my favorite graphics of the year.

"All Summer in a Day" (the Ray Bradbury story) doesn't apply here in our beautiful neck of the woods. Here it is six months of loveliness with art, wine, food, beer, jazz, blues, and even accordion festivals galore! From the beginning of spring to the middle of fall, we know how to party on in Sonoma County! One of my favorite things is the Mustard Festival . The drive over to Napa through the blossoming landscape is lovely in itself. The Mustard Festival features art, food, cooking exhibitions, beer and wine tasting, great music to entice every taste, and of course, mustard! I like it all and can spend an entire day there soaking up the flavors.

Another favorite of mine is the Sonoma County Fair. I love looking at the animals, people, horse races, flowers, crafts, and Ginzu knives! HA! (yes, I buy something there every year. My cupboards are full of magic mops, lettuce spinners, vegetable slicers, mink oils, and ...oh no, I ate the fudge!) The musical performances cannot be matched. You have your choice of country, jazz, blues, musica Mexicana, rock and roll, and even a cappella on occasion.

In the fall there is the Jazz Festival at Johnson's Beach in Guerneville and the Russian River Food and Wine Fest in Monte Rio. The season is filled with numerous activites, but you can make up your own by taking a hike in Armstrong Woods or driving out to Jenner for a picnic with the seals. And there's always wine tasting, cheese tasting, and sitting in the sun just watching the wind blow. It's going to be a great season in Sonoma County!
