Jalisco's

Someone sent me one of those endless email questionaires recently and one of the questions was, "What is your favorite food?" Without even hesitating I wrote back "Mexican and any kind of Asian". So I thought I'd open up a discussion of what's your favorite Mexican or Asian restaurant in Sonoma County and see where it leads us....

I'll start by saying that my hands down favorite place is Jalisco's, affectionately known in our family as "Jal's". We've been going there for over twenty years and have witnessed our favorite server "Yevette" grow from an awkward five year old in braids dressed in a flouncy dress with black patent leather Mary Jane's and ruffled white sox helping to serve the soft drinks into a buxom beauty with a friendly smile and the tight jeans she wears today.

I like to order chicken tacos and ladle each one with a whole container of their special hot sauce. I've also gone through a taquito phase. You can get those three or five to an order and it comes with shredded lettuce, tomato, and guacamole. Our daughter likes the beef enchiladas and for years our son ordered the quesidilla which is huge and comes filled with hot molten cheese. Hubby likes the carne asada burrito which comes filled with tender chunks of beef in a spicy chile gravy. They also have a great hamburger and fries.

Nothing fancy here. Just benches inside and out. No beer or wine. No table service. They do happen to have a GREAT corner location on Mendocino across from the JC. There is usually plenty of parking and the rest rooms are clean.

If you want really great Mexican food for a reasonable price, I guarantee you will love Jalisco's. 1800 Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa 576-7332
