Senju Sushi

Senju Sushi Windsor CA For years some of my locker room buddies at the Airport Club have been talking to me about a sushi joint up in Windsor where they liked to go for girls' night out, drink sake and beer after a hard aerobic workout. (Gotta reward yourself for being good). Well, I finally made it up there... and now I can see what they have been talking about!

The room itself is like being transported to "somewhere else". The windows are all covered with rice paper. You can't see out into the bustling world of Windsor shopping. Pleasant Japanese music plays softly; the sounds of the flute and koto enticing you inward. The smell of ginger and soy adding to the melodrama of senses. The friendly owner greets you at the door bowing slightly.

The menu features a wide selection of appetizers, soups, salads, complete dinners, bento box combinations, udon, maki and nigiri sushi, and sashimi. I want to try it all! We begin ordering what will turn out to be a three hour feast of delectable delicacies.

Appetizers, Soup, & Salad

Fried Tofu - 8 pieces fried golden crispy and served with a slightly sweet salty dipping sauce. Excellent! Crisp Fried Calamari - didn't hold my interest, but the rest of the party liked it.
Gyoza - 6 pieces gobbled up before the server leaves the table.
Combination Tempura - nicely done tempura vegetable and shrimp. Poki Salad - marinated tuna with tobiko served over mixed salad greens with a spicy dressing. Excellent!
Shiro Maguro - albacore tuna delicious, but sparse serving.
Eda-mame - simply boiled soy beans with a little salt. Yummy!
Sunomono Salad - cucumber with sweet vinegar dressing. Refreshing.
Miso Soup - with tofu and wakame. Hot, salty, and delicious! A generous portion.
OK So now we're gonna get serious!

Maki Rolls: Small hand rolled bites of seaweed wrapped rice with various fillings.

Kappa - cucumber Tekka -tuna
Oshinko - pickled radish
Poki Roll - tuna with tobiko & avocado
California Roll - Ubiquitous Spicy Tuna - with messy sauce
Tokyo Tower - cooked prawns, asparagus, tobiko Volcano Roll - shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, tobiko

Nigiri Sushi: Small hand formed rectangles of rice with thinly sliced toppings.

Amaebi - jumbo raw prawn with fried head served separately
Ebi - cooked prawn Hamachi - yellowtail Inari - sweet tofu
Maguro - tuna
Poki - spicy tuna & tobiko
Shiro Maguro - albacore
Tobiko - flying fish roe
Unagi - fresh water eel Are you getting full yet? No way!

Sake - more sake! Biru (beer), Tea - more and more tea! And... Dessert! Green Tea, Mango, and Coffee Mochi Ice Cream The only major criticism I have of Senju is the the portions are way too small for the price. But I am so hungry after writing this that I want to go back right now! And yes, the bill was exorbitant! Next time I think I better control myself? Nah....! Domo arigato! I'll be back!
